Just When I Thought Things Were Going So Well

Happy November My Lovelies! Halloween has come and gone, and I way overestimated the amount of trick or treaters I would have. Planned for about 50 to 60, had about 10 ☹️. I’d like to say I’ll save the leftover candy until next year, but let’s be realistic 😆😆😆.

Anyway, on to today’s nonsense 😁. I swear I must have the most post’s where I make a claim (last weeks “It Has Been a Great Week”) only for something to happen to turn me into a liar 🤪.

This time it was 23andMe that ended my streak of peace 🙄. As I last mentioned, I filled out the required paperwork, scanned it, along with my DL, and sent it back on Thursday afternoon. I was then prompted to create an account with them. At the very end of the process, they ask for my kit number, which of course, I don’t have, because I don’t have access to my data! I leave it blank, notify the Henry, the agent I’m working with online, that the account is complete. Receive an email stating my request has been updated and to reply to this email with any questions or additional comments.  So, I respond asking when I will be able to see my information. Again I am informed that my request has been updated yada, yada, yada. I take this to mean that all is set, so I logged in and (drum roll please 🥁) – NOTHING! Nothing EXCEPT the profile I set up minus the kit number, because (say it with me now) I don’t have the number! Now I’m getting annoyed and send another email requesting the kit number so I can register it. And I get the same response “your request has been updated below….” Apparently the “below” part just refers to the original response of “set up an account…” At this point I am pissed. I try one more time with the following “additional comment” via email:

I have followed all of the instructions provided in this email, created my account, confirmed my email and yet when I log in it has none of my data under my profile and asks me to register a kit number, which is number I don’t know or have. So my request to have my sample attached to my account has not been “updated” so please let me know what I need to do to get my access to my profile and stop telling me it’s “updated” when it clearly isn’t or I would be able to see my data on my profile. Charleen

Response? “Your request has been updated…” I almost lost my s🤬🤬t. I decided to wait until Friday and call customer service in an effort to resolve this issue. Now if you think customer service solved my problem (which most of you are probably laughing at me for my naivete 😆😆) you would be as wrong as I was. After going round and round about the issue, he finally understood the problem and had the nerve to tell me that the information was private so he couldn’t give it to me. Enraged and trying to keep my cool I responded “I know it’s private IT’S MY DATA! And you are telling me that I my data is private so I can’t have it?” At this point I asked to speak with a supervisor which he could not do at that time, could someone call me back? At this point I agreed because this call wasn’t going to get any better and my attitude was only going to way worse. I told him that I had been in contact with someone named Henry via email before hanging up.

Now I didn’t expect a response until Monday, but low and behold another email comes through from Henry. And you won’t believe what it said 😳. And I quote:

“You have received a request from Michael Last Name to accept the transfer of the profile for Charleen Last Name to your account. 

If you would like to accept or reject this request, please click on the button below to view your pending profile transfers. Please note that you may need to sign into your account if you are not currently signed in.”

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! 

They had to contact him so that he could allow my own data to be transferred to me! Are you kidding me? My own data is private from me but not my ex just by the virtue of him putting both kits under his own account. How F🤬🤬🤬ED UP is that? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of 🤯!

Of course, I accepted this ludicrous request just to cut the ties, but 23andMe is getting an earful about the way their system is set up 😡.

So for a day and a half my week went off the rails but by Saturday all was right with the world again and I was feeling less murdery (yes I know it’s not a real word – thanks Microsoft 🙄) again 😁.

I tell you this long-winded story for three reasons: a. of course this would happen to me, I think I’ve documented enough similar stories to prove I have weird things occur around me; b. to give you a good laugh 😆; and c. to encourage you to track your own data and keep online accounts as separate as possible to avoid this kind of nonsense.

Learn from my messes My Lovelies 😊! And never be afraid to laugh at yourself 😜.
