Not a Recap – The Courtship Ep. 10

Ok I know this is really late – like over a week late 😬 (my brain has been a little wonky lately 🤷🏼‍♀️).  So, I’ll just list some highlights and tomorrow I’ll move on to Ep. 11 which aired last night.

I have to admit that when I first started these snarky overviews, I deliberately chose not to focus on the race of any of the participants unless it was brought up on the show. I wanted to focus on the “story” that was being presented. Well, this week the issue of race was brought up.

You see Ms. Remy and her family are Black, her BFF is White and the suitors that are left are also White. They were each was asked by a different family member if they could see any problem with a Black person joining their family and each stated no. And I truly hope that is true. But the fact that they had to ask in 2022 sheds light on the reality that, sadly, it is still an issue.

Now all of this is taking place during this sort of “carnival” which has some entertainment, rides, drink, and dance. It also has a Tea Reader – who reads the leaves for Ms. Remy with each of the six suitors. Some are into it; some aren’t but overall, each gets a good read from the prognosticator of tea, well except for Mr. Chapman. The Tea Reader says that with Mr. Chapman she only sees half a heart, which Ms. Remy takes to mean she is the other half. I take it as he’s only half in. Of course, as an audience member, I get to see more 😉.

And Mr. Chapman seems to confirm this in his conversation in the gentlemen’s parlour 🙄. He just isn’t ready to give up his van life and spend significant amount of time with anyone (ok, as someone who has lived alone these past 4 years, I kind of get it, but I would be honest about that).

Other things of note before the Farewell Ball:

  • Mr. Remy’s brother had to leave 😢. But he is going home to have his first child so YAY 🍾!
  • Mr. Nazaire and Ms. Remy have a chat and he waffles when she asks if he could commit to her since they live on two different continents. He cannot just pick up and move his work anywhere. While it appears he used to work in both movies and television and had his own recording company. But from what I read, it seems he is currently making his living via Instagram and appearing on reality TV. I guess having a girlfriend/potential wife could be a problem with that 😜.

At the Farewell Ball, Mr. Judge and Mr. Nazaire are called forward with one going home. So, who will survive – the safe bet (Mr. Judge) or the unknown quantity (Mr. Nazaire)? In the end Mr. Nazaire was sent packing and that was the right choice.

I will end this non recap with this thought – if Ms. Remy, a young, intelligent, beautiful, grounded woman is struggling to date in the real world, I worry about my chances 😳.
